Functions Of Computer

What is Computer:

Computer is an advanced electronic device that takes raw data as input from the user and processes these data under the control of set of instructions (called program) and gives the result (output) and saves output for the future use. It can process both numerical and non-numerical (arithmetic and logical) calculations

Four functions about computer are:

1. Input (accepts data):

Input is the raw information entered into a computer from the input devices. It is the collection of letters, numbers, images etc. we use many types of input device such as,

(i) Keyboard: The keyboard is the piece of computer hardware used to input text, characters, and other commands into a computer.

(ii) Mouse: It’s a pointing device. The mouse is rolled over the mouse pad, which in turn controls the movement of the cursor in the screen.

(iii) Scanner: Scanners are used to enter information directly in to the computers memory. This device works like a Xerox machine.

(iv) Microphone: A microphone is a device that captures audio by converting sound waves into an electrical signal.

(v) Touchpad: A touchpad, trackpad or mousepad is a pointing device featuring a tactile sensor, a specialized surface that can translate the motion and position of a user's fingers to a relative position on the operating system that is outputted to the screen.

(vi) Webcam: A webcam is a hardware camera and input device that connects to a computer and the Internet and captures either still pictures or motion video of a user or other object.

(vii) Bar Code Reader: This device reads bar codes and coverts them into electric pulses to be processed by a computer. A bar code is nothing but data coded in form of light and dark bars.

(viii) Touchscreen: A touchscreen is an important source of input device and output device normally layered on the top of an electronic visual display of an information processing system. A user can give input or control the information processing system through simple or multi-touch gestures by touching the screen with a special stylus and/or one or more fingers.

(ix) Graphics Tablet: A graphics tablet is a hardware input device used primarily by digital artists, though many non-artists use them as well.

(x) Joystick: Joystick is a cursor control device used in computer games and assistive technology .

2. Processing (processes data):

Process is the operation of data as per given instruction. It is totally internal process of the computer system.

3. Output (produces output):

Output is the processed data given by computer after data processing. Output is also called as Result. We can save these results in the storage devices for the future use. we use many types of output device such as,

(i) Monitor: The monitor is the piece of computer hardware that displays the video and graphics information generated by the computer through the video card.

(ii) Printer: In computing, a printer is a peripheral which makes a persistent human-readable representation of graphics or text on paper or similar physical media.

(iii) Speaker: They receive audio input from the computer's sound card and produce audio output in the form of sound waves.

(iv) Headphone: headphone is a hardware output device that either plug into our computer line out or our speakers to privately listen to audio without disturbing others.

(v) Touchscreen: A touchscreen is an important source of input device and output device normally layered on the top of an electronic visual display of an information processing system. A user can give input or control the information processing system through simple or multi-touch gestures by touching the screen with a special stylus and/or one or more fingers.

(vi) projector: A projector is an output device that can take images generated by a computer or Blu-ray player and reproduce them onto some surface, usually a large, flat, lightly colored one.

(vii) TV Screen: A tv screen is an output device which use for monitoring.

(viii) Virtual reality headset: A virtual reality headset is also an output device, virtual reality headset provides immersive virtual reality for the wearer. VR headsets are widely used with computer games but they are also used in other applications, including simulators and trainers.

(xi) Braille embosser: A braille embosser is an impact printer that renders text as tactile braille cells. Using braille translation software, a document can be embossed with relative ease, making braille production efficient and cost-effective. Blind users tend to call other printers "ink printers," to distinguish them from their braille counterparts.

(x)Tactile device: A mechanical instrument that makes use of touch to help individuals who have certain disabilities, such as deaf-blindness, to communicate.

4. Storage (stores results):

The process of saving data and instructions permanently is known as storage. In a computer, data storage is the place where data is held in an electromagnetic or optical form for access by a computer processor.

Consist of computer:

1. Hardware.
2. Software.
3.User.
And all these together are called computer system.
